Louisiana Man Wins Great American Insurance Group’s “Big Rig”

A trucking company service manager from the New Orleans, La.-area has won a customized Peterbilt “big rig” in Ohio-based Great American Insurance Group’s annual giveaway.

Todd Turner’s first trip to the Mid-America Trucking Show was more exciting than he could have ever imagined, the insurance company said. The trucker completed a “Big Rig Giveaway” entry on a whim as he and his wife passed the Great American Insurance Group booth, never imagining that he would actually be the winner.

Turner said he actually doesn’t do that much driving any more, but his wife does. She may end up driving the new truck, he said.

Turner is the service manager for Bengal Transportation Services in Holden, La., about an hour outside New Orleans. His wife, Jeannie, also drives for the company and had been on her way to the “Women in Trucking” event at the show when they found out about the win.

Turner is planning to lease his new truck to his company, which will give them 27 trucks on the road. As a driver for the company, his wife may have the opportunity to drive the new rig, Turner said..

The 2012 Big Rig Giveaway marked the sixth time Great American Insurance Group awarded a truck at the Mid-America Trucking Show. Great American created the drawing to highlight the Trucking Division’s products and services.

Great American provides insurance products for the long-haul trucking industry and specializes in service to independent owner-operators, insuring one in four owner-operators on the road, the company said.

Since its inception, the popular contest has received more than 30,000 entries. Each year, the “Big Rig” truck is given a custom design. This year’s design featured red, white and blue striping on the sides of the cab and the Big Rig Giveaway logo on the back.
