Peterbilt & Kenworth Now Offer the Spicer® EconoTrek™ 6×2 Tandem Axle on Commercial Vehicles

The Spicer EconoTrek 6×2 tandem axle, made by Dana Holding Corporation, is now an optional feature for Kenworth and Peterbilt commercial vehicles. Engineers for Dana designed the Spicer EconoTrek 6×2 tandem axle with multiple enhancements for decreasing maintenance costs and increasing fuel efficiency of heavy-duty, line-haul tractors from two to three percent. In addition, the tandem axle lowers overall vehicle weight by as much as 400 pounds when compared to the conventional 40,000 pound 6×4 tandem axle arrangement.

The design of the Spicer EconoTrek 6×2 tandem axle solidifies Dana’s standing as the go-to resource for a wide choice of drivetrain options – each manufactured to meet or exceed the specific needs of individual fleets for long-term use. An increasing number of truck fleets in North America have utilized the Spicer EconoTrek 6×2 tandem axle, and they are benefiting from the cost savings and greater fuel efficiency.

Dana 6x2

The Spicer EconoTrek tandem axle allows the use of wide-based single tires on conventional track axles with two-inch outset wheels.  By installing the Spicer EconoTrek tandem axle with singlewide aluminum wheels, fleet managers reduce the weight by at least 400 pounds when compared with dual tires with steel wheels.

In addition to the Spicer EconoTrek, Dana plans to release a SelecTTrac feature that offers maximum gross axle weight capacity for trucks that have 0- to 0.56-inch outset wheels for wide-based single tires.

Engineers designed the Spicer EconoTrek to provide optimum performance when used with an electronic-controlled air suspension system, such as the Bendix eTrac system. The eTrac system effortlessly transfers weight to the drive axle for greater low-speed traction when used with Dana’s patented wheel-differential lock feature.

Models of the Spicer EconoTrek axle will be exhibited and featured at the TMC in booth 1202 and at the Mid-America Trucking show in booth 30455. More information is at
