Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs® Truck Competition Thunders into Tulsa May 18-20

Competition Will Be Held at Exchange Center at Expo Square

The 35th Annual Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs® truck competition will thunder into Exchange Center at Expo Square in Tulsa, Okla. May 18-20 with this year’s theme of “Titans of Tulsa.”  There will be activities for truckers and their families, as well as spectators. All Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs events are free to attend and open to the public.

“The opportunity to celebrate the 35th Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs® is a great testimony to the hardworking truck drivers from the U.S. and Canada that deliver goods every day and take great pride in their work and their trucks,” said Megan Pino, global brand manager, Shell Rotella. “The dedication of so many drivers over the years has made this a great event and we look forward to sharing the Titans of Tulsa with drivers and people in the Tulsa area.”

The Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs® competition is the premier truck beauty contest for actively working trucks.  Hard working owner/operator truckers from across the United States and Canada will compete for cash and prizes in excess of $25,000. Twelve drivers will be selected to have their trucks featured in the 2018 Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs® calendar. Entrants will be awarded with a gift package valued at more than $50, while supplies last. Drivers can register in advance or onsite when they arrive on Thursday or Friday.

Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs® Events

Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs® will feature fun and entertaining events for drivers and their families each day and night including a variety of vendors, a scavenger hunt, prizes, games, the ROTELLA Road Show, as well as the ROTELLA T6 BBQ Pitt. For attendees traveling to the event, the Tulsa area has a number of fun things to participate in such as a Tulsa Drillers Minor League Baseball game, nearby flea markets and street fairs in downtown Tulsa.

The annual lights contest will take place on Thursday night along with a live concert by trucker and country music artist Tony Justice. The Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs® truck parade, which allows drivers to show the local community their great looking rigs, will take place downtown on Friday night beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Brady Arts District around Guthrie Green. Drivers will stage their rigs, turn on their lights, pump up the music and start the street party. There will also be live entertainment as well. On Saturday, all contestants are invited to enjoy a complimentary barbeque lunch cooked on the Rotella T6 BBQ grill.

Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs® Highlights

  • National Tractor Pullers Association competitor Larry Koester, who is in his 31st year of tractor pulling in the mini-modified division, will be attending along with his Shell ROTELLA-sponsored tractor. Koester’s inspirational story about how he overcame a devastating farm tractor accident is chronicled in a Shell ROTELLA® Unsung film. Larry competes with his son Adam, who is also sponsored by Shell ROTELLA.
  • The Shell ROTELLA® Road Show demonstrates how Shell Lubricants developed its portfolio of API CK-4 and FA-4 Shell ROTELLA® heavy duty diesel engine oils. It also contains information about the future of heavy duty engine oils which includes prototype Shell Lubricants engine oils along with engine parts taken from engine teardowns after 500,000-800,000 miles of testing. In addition, the trailer highlights Shell ROTELLA® coolants such as Shell ROTELLA® ELC NF and greases including Shell Gadus and Shell Spirax.

Trucks entered in the Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs® truck competition will be judged by industry professionals who work for major trucking publications or broadcast companies. Judges score the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality and workmanship. In total, 24 working trucks receive awards for categories such as Best of Show, Tractor, Tractor/Trailer Combination and Classic.

Judging will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, from 7:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m. on Friday, and between 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.  Judging takes about 20 minutes and contestants do not need to be present to win. The awards ceremony will take place at 3:00 pm on Saturday.

Shell Rotella Portfolio of Heavy Duty Engine Oils

The Shell ROTELLA® portfolio of oils has been developed by the makers of the No. 1 selling diesel engine oil to meet the new API CK-4 and FA-4 performance categories for diesel engine oil which were first licensable on December 1, 2016. API CK-4 oils replaced API CJ-4 oils and are completely backwards compatible with all engines built before the 2017 model year. They are designed with improved high temperature oxidation resistance, shear stability and aeration control compared to previous API categories.
